What have you got?

With all the price soaring, job cutting scenario, what would be the conversation between a Gen Next IT guy and a Non IT guy

One such fictional conversation...

Gen Next IT guy : Car EMI=6000, Home EMI= 45000 , Savings for MS course= 8000

Non IT guy : Bank loans, diwali bonus

Gen Next IT guy: I have a 3BHK flat, car and plans for MS in one of the top notch Universities in U.S.A. What about you?

Non IT guy: I have mental peace, happiness, and I lead a tension free life.

Ps: No offense meant to anyone.This is a purely fictional work.

the IT guy is aiming for bigger things in his life so to get something big he has to sacrifice certain things..but the non IT guy is just content with his life..but on the long run who will be more happy..thats a million dollar question in itself..depends on the individual rite..like if the non IT guy is just content with watever he has then he will always be content at the same time the IT guy after having achieved wat he had wanted he wud also be content..and hey Subha jus because he/she doesn plan to come her does that mean they have a life without any stress?

@SATISH
i think i agree partially..i sometimes feel that it takes a lot for an IT guy to become satisfied in life that he keeps making plans over plans..while an aam aadmi is satisfied with a govt job or something like that. now thats just one perspective of me..i think i myself need to think abt this quite a bit.

well ultimately the golden rule in life is u just cant compare ur life with anyone else..happiness and success are defined by individuals..wat appears successful to u mite not appear successful to me and the vice versa also holds true..and who knows a non IT guy mite yearn for the IT guys lifestyle..the grass is always greener on the other side :) the cliches are always true..

@SATISH
yep, the cliches are always true.well, am just trying to get various perspectives and i will only b glad to receuve as many as possible.what do u think abt this? -- is it that the IT guy puts himself under stress a lot more than anyone else? by stress, i mean both professional life and also the yearning for having a house, car etc etc

well Subha in todays competitive world every profession has the "stress" factor..gone are the days of "9 to 5" working jobs and returning home at 6 and watching TV..ippo i feel it is more of survival of the fittest everywhere..if u are not good enuf other ppl wud just race ahead of u..my friends in non IT fields are putting more than 10 hrs a day in their jobs..some are working in media some as business analysts and some in CA..so its more about personal satisfaction..so i mean if u want to achieve somethin professionaly as well as lead a financially secure life then no matter wat field u are in, u wud have to slog ur ass off..thats my opinion..blessed are our parents and uncles..they din have so much stress in work and they cud afford the relaxed work style at their time..ippo u just cant be like that..

oh ya, the last line is so true.

Me thinks these days even the Non IT guys are after homes, cars et all.

good write-up and very good discussion.

My perspective as a non-IT guy:
I do have to work hard, have big dreams ( car, house, gf..), occasional stressful days, etc.
At the same time, happy and contend with the way things are going on in my life. one main reason for my overly satisfied attitude is that i dont even unintentionally compare my living with my friends in IT-field

FYI, I ditched CTS for my Ph.D

@YOGESH
i was xactly trying to get here, but somehow, thanks a ton for this piece.i think all the hullaballo and stress is already set as a standard by the earlier gen IT guys. Very few like you realise that comparison doesnt yield anything.i see that many of my non IT frnds r pretty satissfied in life

Sadly true.
